Institutionality

Fisheries Management Fund (FAP)
Seeks the promotion and development of fisheries activities in a sustainable manner through promoting instruments and social intervention with a territorial approach.

Fisheries and Aquaculture Research Fund (FIP)
It was established by the General Law on Fisheries and Aquaculture in 1991 and it is aimed at financing studies required to base the adoption of measures for managing fisheries aquaculture activities. These management measures are aimed at the conservation of hydrobiological resources, taking into account biological, fishing, economic, and social aspects.

Scientific Technical Committees
Advisory/Consultative bodies of the Undersecretariat on relevant scientific subjects for fisheries and aquaculture management. They were created under Law N° 20.657.

Management committees
Advisory/Consultative bodies of the fishing authority. They include the main stakeholders of each fishery as well as of officials from this Undersecretariat and from Sernapesca.

National Aquaculture Commission
Public-private body advising the President of the Republic regarding the development and assessment of the actions, measures, and programs required.

National Fisheries Council (CNP)
The National Fisheries Council contributes to the effective participation of the fisheries stakeholders at a national level regarding fisheries and aquaculture activities. It is a decisive, advisory and consultative body concerning the subjects established by the law. Its properly based opinions, recommendations, proposals, and technical reports are submitted to the Undersecretariat on all those subjects stated by the law as well as any other of interest to the sector. The National Fisheries Council has its headquarters in Valparaiso and meets at the Undersecretariat building.

Regional Fisheries Councils
With the enactment of the Law N° 20.256, the Regional Fisheries Directorates became a functional part of the Undersecretariat for Fisheries and Aquaculture. Currently, there are eight directorates for a clear and timely attention of our public in regions. These Directorates are located in Iquique, Coquimbo, Constitucion, Concepcion, Valdivia, Puerto Montt, Aysen, and Punta Arenas.

Regional Councils for Recreational Fishing
Advisory bodies for promoting and developing recreational fishing activities in regions where it is possible to be carried out.

National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service
Oversees compliance with fisheries and aquaculture regulations, provides services to facilitate its appropriate implementation and to conduct an effective sanitary management, in order to contribute to the sector's sustainability and the protection of the hydrobiological resources and their environment.

Fisheries Research Institute (IFOP)
Non-profit private-law body aimed at supporting the sustainable development of the fisheries and aquaculture sector of the country.
