It refers to the fishing activity carried out with non-profit sport, entertainment, recreation, hobby, or competition purposes. This activity can be conducted both at sea and continental bodies of water (rivers and lakes).

The government is working on the formulation of a Promotion and Development Policy of Recreational Fishing in Chile. This policy is aimed at turning our country in a world-class destination for salmon and trout fishing, contributing to the development of tourism of the local economies and at the same time respecting the environment. To do this, different regulations to prevent the entry or spread of pests such as Didymo have been issued, as well as the regulations governing how to conduct breeding and restocking and the characteristics of fishing gears.
